NZIODA Committee have reviewed the 2018/19 season and in particular the ranking criteria. After this review and feedback it has received the Committee has deemed that the move to two (2) ranking regattas and the nationals which was intended to reduce cost through a reduction of ranking regattas didn't achieve this aim and had unintended consequences in which it meant that Nationals effectively determined the sailor rankings for the season.
NZIODA is pleased to announce it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese Sailing Authority in Qingdao this week.
The agreement aims to strengthen optimist sailing relations between our two countries and we look forward to seeing Chinese sailors visiting New Zealand and attending our regattas from the 2020/21 season on wards.
Disciplinary Statement from NZIODA
Conduct Committee held a hearing on 4th August with Harrison Loretz in relation to a reported incident involving him at 2019 Worlds.
Findings:
The Committee found Harrison seriously breached the “NZIODA Sailors Travelling Team Code of Conduct 2019” by directing language at another competitor that was inappropriate and offensive.
Apology:
The introduction of this new fleet as fulfilling two roles:
1 – To be a transitional fleet for sailors that enjoy competitive racing, and
2 – Allow sailors to continue sailing while enjoying the mate-ship, comradery and social aspects of sailing.
Guidelines:
While the details may change over time the intent is that the White fleet will:
Great (breezy day today with Tom Rebbeck in a very solid top 5 throughout 4 races with a 2nd in the last with building wind and having 17+ kt gusts by days end.
George Cole-Baker very consistent with 6,7,8’s which was commendable in a solid fleet of around 50 Optimist Advance sailors and ahead of other overseas teams.
A great first up race Grace Still in the Laser 4.7 knocking out a 2nd but then a bit of a mixed bag of mid-fleet results for the further 4 races – hiking hard!
Hello New Zealand Optimist Parents,
The NZIODA Committee is reaching out to all Optimist parents to find a Treasurer for the upcoming 2019/2020 season.
The role is important as it provides the financial guidance to the Committee to allow us to invest in the future of Optimist sailing throughout New Zealand.
At the June 5 meeting NZIODA Committee voted to introduce a new White fleet.
Bonjour!
From the 14 - 16 June 2019 Noah Shirley, KYC/MBSC attended the 45 ° Trofeo Optimist d’Argento (Optimist Silver Trophy) organised by the Circolo Vela Torbole (Torbole Sailing Club).
