Race Day 3 ( teams racing)
Report 1 2nd July 2010
Royal Varuna Yacht Club, Pattaya, Thailand
The Australasian team has been busy over the past three days training and becoming familiar with the conditions in Kamien Pomorski. Yesterday was a quieter day with Susannah deciding the children needed rest before the regatta starts. They trained for two hours in the morning in light winds and then spent the afternoon looking around Kamien Pomorski. This included a trip to John the Baptist Cathedral and viewing an enormous musical organ. Fortunately for the team it was being played when they visited which left them awestruck.
The day started on time with the children launching at 11am but that was when the dramas started. There had been a muck up with the colours as some teams had their girls in the boys’ fleet. Coaches were urgently called ashore with children left stranded on the course in stiflingly hot and still conditions. As it turned out the AP flag was raised and the children were returned to shore. The wind came in and children re launched at 3pm with new colours.
There was very tricky wins today with light 3knots sea breezes.

After a day of frustration yesterday when sailing was abandoned due to lack of wind we finally got the winds we expected to get in Europe. There was great excitement when rigging boats this morning in winds of 15 to 18 knots and the team finally got to wear their Rooster team sailing jackets. Launching is difficult in calm conditions so today proved to be extremely difficult. There was a collective sigh of relief when all the Australasian boats were launched and we could stand back and watch the ongoing carnage on the ramp with boats from other countries.
Asian Report 5.
Today was teams racing day which started off in about 8 knots of breeze. We managed to get two races done before the breeze died out completely. Now 4 pm and it has been abandoned for the day. Tomorrow we will continue and try to finish teams racing. Tomorrow was scheduled as the day off which the sailors were looking forward to but are keen now to finish the teams racing.
Today started with more excitement, again to we were greeted with winds of around 15knots. It was an early start with everyone sailing out to the race course by 10am. It was a day of mixed results for both Aussie and Kiwi sailors but overall the girls out did the boys both moving up 10 places overall.
The winds dropped all day ending with about 8knots. As it dropped it became very shifty and hard for the sailors to read.
