2009 Worlds Update

Saturday Racing has now concluded in the Optimist Worlds with Sinclair Jones from Peru taking the title of World Champion. The last day saw the typical light and shifty conditions return for the final race.
Overall final placings for the Kiwis: Taylor 72, Keith 90, Erica 107, Naomi 124, Jack 191. A sterling effort in obviously tricky and trying conditions!

Report day 5  At last the wind arrived..and with it some great results!
Day 5 - Tuesday 11th August
Dawned another stinking hot day with no wind, it was 37 today....our team was going to get on the water for some training since they did not make the last 16 in the teams racing but they ended up waiting all day as there was no wind. At least they got to swim in the pool!
The 16 teams went out and got a couple of races in but then came ashore again. Finally at 3pm out they went again in a gentle breeze...then at 5pm the wind came up in a flash and it was 30knots, boats were upside down all over the bay and sailors struggled to keep sailing, even a rib was overturned and was towed in upside down, the wind has continued all evening and is still howling.......our team of course are hoping it is going to stick around for awhile but one would not hold your breath!
