Unfortunately the European Championships finished with no racing on the final two days due to lack of winds. Therefore all our sailors placings stayed the same as our last report. The Regatta winners were Italy in the Girls' fleet and Greece in the Boys'. All the sailors feel they came exceptionally far during the regatta and will have lots of experience to bring home.
I feel they performed well against a fleet that was made up of many countries' nationally 1st ranked teams and the others' nationally 2nd ranked team, compared to our 4th ranked team!!!
Yesterday the sailors enjoyed the atmosphere of the final day of the regatta taking part in many trades of team uniform. They also collected lots of signatures on their awesome mini opti sails. Each sailor also managed to get hold of a 2 metre regatta banner!
Zak took on the Honor of official flag bearer again during the closing ceremony :-)
This event lived up to their expectations of a Europeans' ceremony and has inspired all the sailors to be the medal winners in future.
After the prizegiving the team added up the fines bucket they had been collecting. It was up to about $30NZ!!!!!! It was decided to split this on a milkshake, fries and a coke each.....
Today the we will look around Berlin before heading home with a stop over in Tokyo.
The team would like to thank everyone for their support. It was an amazing trip the kids will never forget.
